Reduce Yellow-fin whiting bag limit or introduce seasonal closure
Yellow-fin Whiting are a prized species which are well renowned and coveted throughout the Peel-Harvey estuary system in particular. Social media platforms like Facebook, highlight the amount of anglers targeting these fish on a daily basis and very clearly show the increase in popularity surrounding these fish.
Throughout the warmer months, the estuary sees increased pressure from those targeting these beautiful fish and there is a growing concern that this species will not cope for much longer, particularly with the increase of pressure and current bag limits remaining as they are.
After a wide discussion between many part or full time anglers, a mutual understanding has been established and we in general would love to see the bag limit cut down or a seasonal closure implemented in order to protect these fish for generations to come.
Unfortunately the long term effects of an increase in pressure can't always be clearly seen, until the damage or effect is far too great.
