The Issue

Doug Ford represents a significant threat to democracy in Ontario. His actions and policies have consistently undermined the democratic process and have eroded trust in our provincial leadership.

Ford's administration has been marked by a litany of controversial decisions that favor privatization, reduce transparency, and concentrate power in the hands of a few.

For instance, the secret passage of Bill 195 allowed the Premier to extend emergency powers without oversight, bypassing legislative scrutiny and public debate. Additionally, the more recent passage of Bill 5 allowed the Ontario government to exempt companies or projects from complying with provincial laws or regulations. According to credible sources, over 500 subways, highways, and city projects have already been authorized without proper environmental and community consultation, placing Ontario's natural resources and citizens' well-being at risk.

We fear more overreach and land grabs are in the pipeline. Possible land grabs include: destruction of Toronto's waterfront to expand the Billy Bishop Airport, and the closure of most of the Toronto Islands (Center Island, Hanlan's Point, and some of Ward's Island are slated for takeover) for some nebulous business purpose. While Ford's exact plans are murky, we've seen this playbook before. Ford closed down our Science Center and took away Ontario Place. With Ford clutching power, we can expect more of that.

If you live outside Toronto and think these things go not matter, consider that Ford's takeover of Ontario Place will cost every Ontario household over $400. That's what your family will pay to build a spa that you will never visit. And if Ford can defeat a massive population in Toronto, it's only a matter of time before he comes after something that matters to smaller communities. This is a warning to us all, not just to Ontarians, but to all Canadians.

Power players are actively selling Canada as a safe place to build data centers. We taxpayers will pay for those as well. Meanwhile the profits will funnel down to a few tech oligarchs and their governmental sycophants.

These are some of the dangers inherent to a government which no longer serves or answers to the people it governs.

Finally, Ford has systematically reduced the scope of environmental protections and has irresponsibly cut funding to critical public services like healthcare and education during a structural deficit period. These decisions have been detrimental to the most vulnerable segments of our society, jeopardizing the health and future of our communities.

As citizens of Ontario, we have the power to demand accountability and call for a government that truly represents our collective vision for the future. It is crucial that we take a stand against the centralization of power and the erosion of our democratic rights.

Sign this petition to demand the recall of Premier Doug Ford and restore democratic governance in Ontario. With your support, we can build a system that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and the well-being of all Ontarians. Our democracy depends on it. Act now and let your voice be heard.
