Shockingly, instead of receiving care and protection, authorities targeted her. Sheriff Tina Nieto's office issued a warrant for this young, traumatized victim, charging her with the murder of her infant. Rather than promptly raising an Amber Alert or an endangered person alert for the 14-year-old, it took 33 long days before action was taken. The lack of swift intervention placed this young girl's life at even further risk.
