Recall Governor Sherrill

Recall Governor Sherrill
The Issue
[EDIT: Some are pointing out what I thought was blatantly obvious: this is not a legally binding recall petition. That can start once we are within 50 days of the anniversary of her first year in office. But this petition can send a message, as well as start a community of support. Everything starts small, no matter how big it gets.]
Governor Sherrill's response to the recent anti-ICE protest is deeply concerning to many members of our community, and it's time to hold her accountable for her actions and inaction alike. As protests erupted to highlight the grave human rights abuses perpetrated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within her jurisdiction, her lack of a decisive and supportive stance on such a critical issue is alarming.
The state, known for its diverse population, deserves a leader who will stand up against injustice and ensure the protection of human rights, regardless of political pressures. The actions of ICE have been documented and criticized widely for violating basic human rights; reports by reputable human rights organizations highlight cases of unlawful detentions, inhumane detention conditions, and families being torn apart. A true leader should uphold the principles of justice and equality, not shy away from confronting institutional abuses of power.
Governor Sherrill exhibits a failure in demonstrating the courage of conviction necessary to challenge these systemic injustices effectively. Her vague responses and lack of a firm stance only serve to embolden those who commit such transgressions under the guise of law enforcement. We need a governor who is not just a figurehead, but a true check on abuses of power, especially in times that demand moral clarity and decisive action. It is in moments like these that the strength and principles of our leadership are truly tested.
If we are to progress as a society that values human rights and dignity, we must start by demanding accountability from our leaders. It's time for Governor Sherrill to make a clear, public commitment to addressing these human rights abuses and to support the dismantling of systemic issues within ICE operations in her state.
Join us in calling for Governor Sherrill to stand up for human rights, resign, or face a recall petition
