This week, Councilwoman Sage Turner presented a breakthrough opportunity to rebuild Malvern Hills Pool, but it depends on YOU and everyone who supports the pool to write to City Council this week! We need EVERYBODY who wants to see the pool rebuilt to email City Council - even if you have already - to ask them to make a commitment to rebuilding Malvern Hills Pool a part of the Parks Bond resolution.
You can use our handy email tool here (it takes just a couple of minutes).

What’s happening: Last week, Councilwoman Sage Turner proposed that a commitment to rebuild Malvern Hills Pool be made as part of a City Council resolution on a public parks bond that will go on the ballot this November. That means that when City Council votes to approve a measure to put a public parks bond up to a vote on the November ballot, they will also be making a commitment that $3 million of bond funds be earmarked for Malvern Hills Pool. Mayor Mannheimer is supportive of this option and there is additional support on City Council, but not a clear majority. We need to come out loud and clear that we want this to happen so that we can urge City Council to find a majority and make a clear commitment to rebuild the pool.
When you write City Council, tell them where you live, how you and your family use the pool, and why public pools are needed by ALL Asheville residents. If you take part in a Parks & Rec summer camp or other program, tell them your story! Kids can write too! If your kids want to see the pool rebuilt, they can write physical letters and you can email a photo of the letter to Council! Share photos of you and your family at the pool!
We know that:
Our public pools, including Malvern Hills Pool, are used by diverse residents from across ALL neighborhoods.
Malvern Hills Pool hosts an affordable summer camp for kids every year and the youth participants LOVE playing at the pool.
Malvern Hills Pool hosts accessible programs for adults with disabilities who will no longer be able to make use of the pool.
Reducing our public pools reduces our overall public space and limits places that residents can gather to foster friendships.
Malvern Hills Pool has stood for 90 years, is the oldest public pool in the city and is a very important part of our city’s identity and sense of place.
Residents need outdoor recreational facilities during the summer that promote health, wellness and community.
Let’s restore Malvern Hills Pool for another 90 years. We can do this!
