Rebrand the Foxborough Warriors Logo

Rebrand the Foxborough Warriors Logo
The Issue

Currently, the Foxborough High School sports mascot depicts a nonspecific Native American warrior. This mascot objectifies and promotes a stereotypical image of a culture, heritage, and ethnicity of approximately 900 diverse Native Nations that continue to be a part of our United States. Multiple studies have shown that mascots like these are harmful to the mental health of Native American students (apa.org) (umich.edu) (psu.edu).
Removing logos like these does not erase history. The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe are two Native Nations who call Massachusetts their homelands. They are still here and keep their histories and traditions alive. This mascot distorts who these sovereign Native Nations have been and how they wish to be seen.
The school committee will be taking a vote on whether to remove the mascot or not, and this has elicited opposition from many individuals living in the town. Regardless of the outcome of the mascot, we believe that our community can agree on one thing - more can be done to support Native Nations and their citizens in this country. We ask that you sign this petition to support rebranding the school mascot and, regardless of your stance on the logo, we ask that you join us in supporting the Association on American Indian Affairs in their goal of providing scholarships for Native American students and other programs for Native youth by making a contribution in the link below, in the box for the reason why you're donating, just put "Foxborough logo".
