Thank you for your support signing the petition asking to change the high school that Fairhill students go to from Falls Church High School to Madison High School! I am writing with an update and to ask you to email Michelle Reid and key school boundary committee members to continue requesting this change.  

I spoke with 4 people involved in deciding which high school Fairhill students attend.  They are considering changing Fairhill's assigned high school to either Madison High School or Oakton High School, but it's not guaranteed and the change is more likely to occur if more community members that request this change.  

Would you mind taking the time to send the email below to key decision makers (Michelle Reid, Karl Frisch, Ryan McLeven, and certain boundary review committee members) to show your continued support for this change?  Thank you!

I am writing to request that you consider changing the high school that Fairhill Elementary School students attend from Falls Church High School to either Madison High School or Oakton High School.

There are many reasons favoring this change:
-There are 4 high schools closer to our community than Falls Church High School: Madison High School, Oakton High School, Woodson High School, and Fairfax High School.  
-Our community is centered in Vienna, not in Falls Church.  When our children register for activities (e.g., pool, soccer), they register for activities in Vienna, not Falls Church.  We are disappointed when our children cannot build close relationship with the children they meet through these activities because they are assigned to a different school district and don't have the same frequent contact with their extracurricular friends.  When our families go to community activities, they are in Vienna, not Falls Church.  For example, we go to the library in Vienna, restaurants in Vienna, and community events in Vienna (not Falls Church).
-Our community is a de facto attendance island, because it sticks out from the rest of the Falls Church High School boundary and is very close to the boundaries for 4 other high schools.  The Luther Jackson Middle School and Falls Church High School boundary maps look like the state of Oklahoma, with the Fairhill Elementary School neighborhood sticking out on the side in a narrow line. 
-This change should not create capacity issues at Oakton or Madison.  Oakton is expected to have more availability since some Oakton students will be reassigned to the new Western High School, and Madison has no new construction projects planned, so the population is expected to remain stable over time.  -Our community was previously assigned to Frost Middle School/Woodson High School, so there is precedent for changing our community's boundaries again.
