We, the undersigned concerned citizens, clients and staff would like to express our desire to retain James A. Rothrock as the Commissioner for the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS). He has led and helped to shape DRS for over 8 years. During that time, Commissioner Rothrock has truly made a difference in not only the lives of Virginians with disabilities, but he's also earned the respect and friendship of his staff, clients and business partners.
Commissioner Rothrock treats everyone with the same level of respect and encouragement, and is always interested in hearing new ideas and keeping people informed. At DRS, he has created an environment that sparks ideas and facilitates communication, acceptance and teamwork. DRS Staff regularly compare their coworkers to family, and their jobs to a unified mission, in which they all have equal stake. Before Commissioner Rothrock came to DRS, this environment simply didn't exist. Because of his leadership, every single employee in the agency has the chance to come to work each day with the knowledge that what they do helps people face and overcome barriers, and live more fulfilling lives. This is what agency leadership should be.
Commissioner Rothrock has dedicated his life to improving the lives of Virginians with Disabilities, and his steadfast conviction to that goal continues to energize and motivate staff and clients from each of the Disability Services Agencies (DSA). In addition, Commissioner Rothrock appreciates the changing face of communication and service delivery to our clients and partners, and has provided guidance and support that has made DRS one of the most technologically advanced and efficient agencies in the state.
Despite the numerous challenges posed by economic and technological changes over the last several years, Commissioner Rothrock has worked tirelessly to ensure that our agencies retain as many resources and programs as possible. Even with those challenges, the Commissioner has been able to improve services to our clients in many ways. Losing Commissioner Rothrock at this critical time in our state's history would be an absolute disservice to DSA staff, State Government, and the Citizens of the Commonwealth.
In summary, Commissioner Jim Rothrock continues to lead DRS with ever-increasing skill and determination, and he has my unwavering support and respect. Jim Rothrock should remain the Agency Head of the Department of Rehabilitative Services. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and considering our request.
