The Issue

Our mornings are too precious to be wasted on packing lunches that could potentially save us from unhealthy school meals. A personal experience struck us when our friend threw up because of the chicken Alfredo they served at our school. This distasteful situation is more common than we'd like, leading to many students avoiding the cafeteria altogether. Lots of food ended up in the trash as well.

With the $3 million spent on a new track, imagine the improvements our schools could have made to their food services. More nutritious menus could have been introduced, including healthy vegetarian options catering to diverse dietary preferences. This funding could have also been used to establish composting practices, reducing the environmental impact of waste from our schools.

According to the School Nutrition Association, over 30 million students participate in the National School Lunch Program. But the quality of the food served is fundamental. A study published in the Journal of School Health found that schools that improved their meal programs saw an increase of 18% in their students' test scores. If you are kind enough to have read this far, please sign to help us reach our goal! We need to have the schools make better spending choices, and do you want the schools to waste your dollars on expensive sports equipment that we  already have, instead of the sports and food items we actually need?

Let's make sure our school uses its funds (FROM US) wisely. If the school prioritizes quality food provision and sustainable practices, it would greatly help students like me who could use a few extra minutes in the mornings and a nourishing and tasty meal during the day. If you also have read this far, your signature would greatly support the cause.

We ask for your signature to petition our school to reallocate funds for the matters that truly count: bigger, healthier, tastier food portions and environmentally-friendly practices. Not only will your signature make the cafeteria more inviting, but it will also contribute to a more sustainable future for us all.
