Reallocate Grace parking back to students
The Issue
Every morning, I endure the frustrating ritual of searching for a parking spot on campus, only to be met with disappointment. After a long and labyrinthine search, I finally find a spot miles away from where I need to be, leaving me with a gruelling walk. Yet, as I pass Grace, a glaring injustice emerges: hundreds of pristine parking spots sit unoccupied, reserved solely for faculty use.
This isn’t just a personal gripe; it’s a daily struggle that affects hundreds, if not thousands, of students. We are paying high tuition fees, plus $300 dollars to park yearly, and contributing significantly to this university, yet we find ourselves burdened by this parking problem. It's demoralizing and inefficient. Indeed, the majority of these reserved spots go unused on most days, while students circulate the campus in desperation, often making them late to classes, stressing them out, and affecting their academic performance.
This petition calls for a reevaluation of parking allocation at Grace. Statistics show that on average, around 200 parking spots in the Grace faculty lot remain vacant daily. This is a colossal waste of resources in a bustling university that prides itself on inclusivity and student support. By reallocating a portion of these spots back to students, the university can alleviate parking struggles, improve campus accessibility, and foster a better educational environment.
We propose a pragmatic solution that involves monitoring the daily faculty parking requirements and allocating a set percentage of unused faculty spots for students. This can be managed through dynamic scheduling or a permit system that adjusts on-demand, ensuring that students have the opportunity to park closer to their classes and reduce unnecessary stress.
It's time for the university to act in the best interest of its student body. Help us make this change feasible and support the hundreds of students experiencing this unnecessary hurdle every day. Sign this petition to reallocate Grace parking for student use and improve the daily lives of all students attending this institution.
