Realign SIDC Bridge to Protect Marine Life in Davao City and Samal Island

The Issue

Citing the irreversible destruction of coral reef ecosystems and invoking the Filipino people’s constitutional right to a balanced and healthful ecology, residents, environmental defenders, youth, and marine scientists seeks to halt construction activities that are devastating two critical coral ecosystems: Paradise Reef in Samal Island and the Hizon Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Davao City—both located in the ecologically significant Davao Gulf.

With this Petition, we aim to uphold the promise of the Constitution—that the right to a balanced and healthful ecology is not aspirational, but enforceable. We strongly refuse to inherit a world where destruction is the cost of progress. We cannot afford to let environmental damage become legally permissible just because it hides behind the façade of infrastructure development.

Through this petition, may we speak where silence has failed, for the reefs, for our people, and for the generations yet to come.

Let's call for the REALIGNMENT of the bridge to a less-destructive route!
