The State Street Advisory Committee (SSAC) is currently receiving an influx of letters from a group advocating for State Street to remain closed. We need to counter this onslaught against our community! Please email the City and the SSAC. It is essential to express your thoughts in your own words, emphasizing the importance of restoring State Street and El Pueblo Viejo to their previous state before the pandemic for the community's well-being, economic vitality, and public safety.

The next meeting is June 26. The SSAC plays a crucial role in making decisions about the street's future, and your input can make a significant impact! Your emails need to be in by Tuesday, June 25, 10 am.

In order to ensure your voice is heard, pleases send emails to both SSAC Secretary Greta Walters at ssacsecretary@santabarbaraca.gov, and the Santa Barbara City Council at sbcitycouncil@santabarbaraca.gov before June 25th, 10 am.

Below is a template letter you may copy and paste, but please add your own words:

To Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse, City Council members and members of the State Street Advisory Committee.

Open Up State Street!  Many plans have kicked around to revitalize State Street but the fact remains that retailers are not coming back to our historic city because State Street is NOT OPEN. This experiment has gone on long enough! The  residents of Santa Barbara demand the opening of State Street!

The police want State Street Open, the Fire Department wants State Street Open, but more importantly, the residents and property owners want State Street Open.  It will cost the city practically nothing to OPEN State St.  Cars Need to be able to drive down State Street. Nearly every adult in the Santa Barbara area drives a car. Stop discriminating against your constituents and area residents!

Where are the retailers? Why is Montecito bustling with activity and shopping? Why is Rodeo Drive bustling? Why is Newport Beach thriving? …. Why? Because they have roads that go to the stores.

 Open Up State Street Now!

Let's restore Santa Barbara to the beautiful, vibrant city it was before the pandemic. It's about time.
