RE-OPEN SALISBURY CITY HALL NOW!

The Issue

As a resident of the City of Salisbury, I am deeply saddened by the recent closure of our beloved City Hall. This historic venue holds great significance as it was originally purchased as a War Memorial for the people of Salisbury, funded through public subscription. For the past 25 years, it has served as a thriving entertainment hub for our community.

The decision to close Salisbury City Hall was made by the Conservative-led Wiltshire Council, who took over custody from Salisbury District Council in 2009. They claim that extensive repairs costing £2 million are necessary before reopening can be considered. However, we strongly disagree with this assessment and firmly believe that immediate action should be taken to restore this vital community venue.

Salisbury City Hall has played an integral role in shaping our local culture and fostering a sense of unity among residents. Countless memorable events have taken place within its walls - from live music concerts and top name comedians to theatrical performances and community gatherings. It has been a cherished venue where lifelong memories were created.

It is disheartening to witness such an important part of our heritage being neglected and left unused. The closure not only deprives us of valuable entertainment opportunities but also hampers local businesses that rely on events held at the City Hall to thrive.

We implore Wiltshire Council to reconsider their decision and prioritize the restoration and reopening of Salisbury City Hall without delay. We understand that financial constraints may exist; however, we urge them to use the hundreds of thousands of £££s received in rent from the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Centre and/or explore alternative funding options such as grants or partnerships with private organizations who share our commitment to preserving this historical landmark.

By signing this petition, we express our unwavering support for re-opening Salisbury City Hall immediately. Let us come together as a community and remind Wiltshire Council of the immense value this venue holds for all residents in Wiltshire.

Together, let's ensure that future generations can continue enjoying the vibrant cultural experiences provided by Salisbury City Hall. Stand with us and demand the restoration of this cherished community venue.
