Well folks, grab your running shoes — we did it! Last night, the Leon County School Board voted unanimously to allow public access anytime schools aren’t in session. That’s right — tracks and fields are officially open to the community again!

Check with your local high school to find out exactly when they’ll be unlocking those gates. Every school might have its own schedule, but this unanimous vote is a mega good sign. Combined with state law, this one’s a high-five-worthy victory for the whole community.

And here’s the kicker — if anyone gives you grief about being there, just point to this win and keep running during off-hours. You earned it.

Let’s keep the momentum going, Tallahassee — this is what teamwork looks like.

P.S. Still, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher that FSU and FAMU keep their tracks locked up tighter than a drum. It’s not right for our high schools to shoulder all the community traffic while the big universities sit this one out. Time for the colleges to be good neighbors and open their gates too — share the love, share the lanes.
