Today I sent this email to the administration of the library. I also spoke to locals with experience getting issues noticed and I have made a Facebook group for easy access to information and upcoming events to get our message heard. I am representing a group of Greenford citizens that are not happy with the continued closure of our Greenford reading center. Our residents have long supported your levies and pay our taxes just like other communities and we deserve the right to have our local branch reopened for our children and for our community. We have emailed over the past few years and received responses indicating that our library is too small for social distancing, or that there are no current plans to reopen our library. The CDC ended the need for social distancing in August 2022, we understood the response before but now it is just an excuse. We have also heard about “staffing shortages” but we are assured that the staffing issues have been resolved and this is also an easy scapegoat to inaction.
The book mobile is not a substitute for the experience a child gets walking into their library and looking through the shelves to find a new and exciting world. We don’t want to put our kids in front of a screen to order books to pick up we want them AWAY from the screens!
We have started a petition with change.org to show you it isn’t one or two of us it’s the entire community. In just a few days it has reached over 200 signatures. Each signature represents an entire household of children wanting the small town experience back. For those who are older than the technology age I am putting together a written signature petition also. Yes we know that Canfield is right down the road but when I take my children to the library I want them to look at books not play in a mini playground.
Please put together a plan of action and reopen our library as soon as possible.
