Re-open Fr. Capodanno Memorial Chapel

Re-open Fr. Capodanno Memorial Chapel
Why this petition matters

The Father Vincent Capodanno Memorial Chapel has housed a thriving, ever changing, Catholic Christian community since its reopening in 1996. The mission of the Chapel has always been to honor Fr. Vincent Capodanno, his unselfish bravery and his cause for Sainthood; and
- provide a home for active duty families to come together in a place where they can feel comfortable to worship, fellowship and share the unique aspects that military families share.
- provide, with open arms, a faith community for ALL who are in search of an open, caring Catholic community, whether it is for one Sunday as they are traveling through, Veterans and reservists who want to stay connected with a military Chapel, or the greater community outside of our gates who are looking for a welcoming, faith filled community in which to worship.
- Above all, Fr. Capodanno Memorial Chapel is a house of worship that has provided a home for many to give praise and glory to God.
In March 2020, the Chapel was closed due to Covid. It has yet to reopen. The excuse given to the community is there is not enough interest on base to support a Catholic community.
We, the community of Fr. Capodanno Memorial Chapel, strongly believe that the Chapel should be reopened for the Catholic Christian Community as well as anyone else who wishes visit to worship our Lord and honor Fr. Vincent Capodanno.
We firmly believe it should be opened and supported through the Coast Guard Chaplain’s office and the Command at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island.
We respectfully request those who support our cause to reopen Fr. Capodanno Memorial Chapel to sign the petition. God Bless and Thank you!
