On a daily basis, hundreds of law-abiding citizens face abuse and excessive threats of violence from taxi drivers, patrol vehicles belonging to the Benoni Taxi Association and the lawmakers of the Benoni Taxi Association. Without taking the needs of their customers into consideration, the Benoni Taxi Association constantly imposes changes and demands on members of the public who depend solely on the taxi industry for transportation to and from various places daily. Since most of our communities have no other option or an alternative when it comes to public transport, we are constantly at the mercy of the Benoni Taxi Association and often find ourselves being unsafe due to reckless driving, humiliated and verbally (sometimes, physically) mistreated by those who vowed to offer a friendly, professional service that is ‘’for the people, by the people’’. We, the communities of Etwatwa and Daveyton, thereby put forth a request for the provision of buses so we`re no longer forced to rely on our abusers for transportation.
