Dionysos Italian Restaurant is a wonderful local restaurant with great food and great people. The Taccetta family always provide a pleasant dining experience and have done so much to become part of the community, including amazingly popular $20 dinners for four specials and All You Can Eat Pasta nights for only $12.95. In a small community, it means a lot to have new businesses come in who are truly interested making our town better. Athens, NY is located on the banks of the Hudson River, yet this is the ONLY place where you can have dinner and enjoy this amazing view. It's great to have a nice restaurant, with a beautiful atmosphere (inside and out) so close to home. We can stop down for a drink after work, have a romantic date night, a family gathering for Sunday brunch, or a large event...all while KEEPING OUR MONEY LOCAL and supporting the growth of our community.
It is tragic that an issue over noise, due to wonderful summer weekend entertainment THAT IS WELCOME BY THE VAST MAJORITY OF RESIDENTS and is filling a void in our small town, could possibly cause hardship to Dionysos Restaurant and the Taccetta family. It's not easy for businesses to survive in a small town and instead of punishing Dionysos, we should be doing everything we possibly can to ensure their success.
On Friday September 21st, Dionysos Restaurant received a disapproval letter from the State Liquor Authority stating they received numerous noise complaints from the Athens Police Department and State Troopers. The letter denies their application for a liquor license (they were operating on a temporary permit waiting for full license approval). Two reasons were stated for the disapproval 1) having music without a cabaret license (which I understand is not common for restaurants to apply for, even if they do have music) and 2) noise complaints (even though the village of Athens gave them permission to have music during certain times). Some people say this punishment sounds "personal" and "strong". Dionysos is currently working with their lawyers to try to rectify the situation. In the meantime, we can all show our support by continuing to eat at Dionysos, order delicious take out, and by signing this petition!
