I am creating this petition in hopes of raising awareness and changing the laws surrounding the use of “Death Traps”—also commonly referred to as “Snaring”.

On the night of December 26th, 2019, our 7 month old Lab and older Blue Heeler (both farm dogs) went missing and never returned home. After several posts on Facebook we were able to have someone track down our Lab, where we brought him home. After noticing a gash in his neck we took him to the Vet where they confirmed he had been Snared. Our boy was released and left to wander for several days before someone found him—no-one took him to get urgent care as a result of his injuries... Since they went missing nearly a month ago, our Blue Heeler has still not been located and she would have wandered home by now if she was “safe”.. We will never get our closure, we will never find her body to give her a proper resting spot, we will never get to say “goodbye”.

Although the use of Snares may be beneficial to most licensed trappers—those who do not follow the rules and regulations hurt beloved pets and in cases such as ours, have been swept under the rug. One month later and no-one has come forward to take responsibility. I want to see stricter application processes in order to be able to use Snaring devices where they need to go through several screenings, answer dozens of questions and provide references to debate whether they are eligible to use these devices.

Sign this petition if you wish to prevent further unnecessary casualties to beloved pets, to enforce stricter rules and regulations for the use of “Death Traps” and to find more humane ways of killing targeted animals. I would not wish this even on my worst enemy.. No-one should have to endure this pain..
