Churches in Nigeria should invest its fund contributed by the members to fight COVID-19

The Issue

Dear Archbishops, General overseers, Bishops, Priests, Pastors, Reverends and other religious leaders.

It is no more news that the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is now within our borders and that the numbers of those infected are steadily on the rise.

In as much as we believe in prayers and have faith that our prayers will be answered, churches and church leaders have the capacity to equip hospital with the requisite supplies required in battling this novel virus.

Most or all the hospitals in the country lack the capacity to test suspected cases of the novel virus, a capacity at least 5 (Five)  hospitals ought to have in every state.

These days, Churches command huge sums of money. Churches like the Catholic Chucrch, Anglican Church, Redeemed Christian Church of God, House on the Rock, Dunamis Intl, Dominion City, Deeper Life Bible Church and many others have the wherewithal to build and equip hospitals within a short period of time; desperate times call for desperate measures.

We find it unthinkable for churches amidst this outbreak to call for all sorts of donation for projects or events not targeted towards curtailing this novel virus.

We as a nation cannot depend solely on the government. The fight against this novel virus, starts with each of us. Though the government has a role to play, we must all step up our game and join the fight as one.

We therefore beseech our religious leaders at the twilight of the spread of this pandemic in our country Nigeria, churches should invest its’ own funds generated from the contribution of its’ members towards the fight against this novel virus.

May we all continue to practice and follow the safety measures and guidelines put in place by the government through the requisite agencies and institutions.

I wish you all luck as we face this dark times, we will smile again.
