UCD needs to provide significantly more on-campus housing now

I support the attached petition regarding the following issues:

1) UCD needs to provide on-campus housing for 100% of all new incoming students starting with the 2017 academic year as other UC’s and CSU’s have been. UCD has only proposed 90% of all new incoming students. This on-campus housing needs to allow occupancy for the entire 4-5 year term that students attend UCD.

2) UCD needs to catch up now on the deficit of on-campus housing, with a target of at least 50% (or more) of the total student population (i.e. including undergraduate, graduate, post-doc, or professional degrees) living on the UCD campus similar to the 50% housing provision in the Long Range Development Plans for UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, UC San Diego and UC Merced.  UCD has only proposed 40% of the total student population.  Since UCD is the largest UC campus with 5,300 acres it needs to strive to provide on-campus housing for 65% of the student population as CSU Poly San Luis Obispo has committed to providing “as soon as possible”. This on-campus housing needs to allow occupancy for the entire 4-5 year term that students attend UCD.

New on-campus housing needs to be provided expeditiously by UCD to relieve the backlog of needed on-campus housing and to accommodate both the incoming and existing student population. It is unfair the to the UCD students and unfair to the Davis community that UCD has not taken responsibility for providing the on-campus housing needs for its own growth for so many years.
