On February 1, 2021, the Myanmar military took power unlawfully in an armed coup. The coup follows the military’s continued violent campaigns against ethnic and religious minorities involving war crimes and crimes against humanity. The military’s atrocities are financed by their business interests.

Coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is currently under international investigation for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity relating to the 2017 campaign against the Rohingya people. He orchestrated the coup and stands to reap immense profits for himself and his family. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is the head of an expansive military-owned conglomerate that has lucrative deals with foreign companies.

One of those deals is with Razer Inc. co-founder and director Lim Kaling’s company, RMH Singapore. Through RMH Singapore and offshore shell companies, Lim Kaling is a key investor in Virginia Tobacco, the Myanmar military’s cigarette monopoly, providing big profits that fuel repression. His continuing business involvement with the military is against the recommendations of the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Myanmar and Amnesty International for all investors to cut ties with the Myanmar military.

The future of the people of Myanmar is being crushed for the profits of the corrupt military generals. There is now a widespread civil disobedience campaign in Myanmar against the military and its businesses. Cigarettes from Lim Kaling’s company have been destroyed in protest. The people have called for a boycott of military businesses.

Lim Kaling must not continue business as usual with these murderous generals. According to the UN Fact-Finding Mission, Lim Kaling’s tobacco business aids and abets the commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Myanmar. So why has he failed to act?

We call on the board of Razer Inc. to take a stand. Allowing Lim Kaling to sit on the Razer board sends a message to your investors and gamers around the world that you stand with the Myanmar military regime and not the people.

Give Razer Inc. an ultimatum: either Lim Kaling immediately cuts ties with the Myanmar military or sack him from the Razer board.

Support human rights, freedom and democracy for the people of Myanmar and tell the Razer board to act now.
