Much Loved Piece Of Greenbelt In Long Ditton, Surrey, Might Be Destroyed
The Issue
Elmbridge Borough Council is planning to build 2,000 new homes with the potential of housing 5,000 people on a piece of Greenbelt land, known as 'One Tree Hill' and land surrounding it, Long Ditton, Surrey. It is the home to a diverse number of species of flora and fauna.
This beautiful, untouched and natural piece of land is also enjoyed by nature lovers, dog walkers and school children alike. The local school children partake in nature studies on the land.
It has incredible views across west London. On fine days Windsor Castle, amongst other famous sites can be seen.
I have lived in Long Ditton for 20 years and visit One Tree Hill (Stokes Fields) on a daily basis as many do.
I understand that One Tree Hill was left in trust to Elmbridge Borough Council many years ago, by the Stoke family who owned the land. It is said that the Mr Stokes wanted the land to be enjoyed by the local community, something we have been doing for many years since.
Long Ditton, Hinchley Wood and the surrounding areas have, over the past few years, seen a huge increase in the number of people choosing to come and live here. This has caused an excessive amount of traffic and congestion in and around the area.
I believe, as many of the residents do, that it would be an outrage to destroy this beautiful piece of land. By creating 2,000 residencies, accommodating up to 5,000 people, would put an over bearing strain on our community.,
Please support my petition and lets see if we can, as a community, prevent this appalling plan from happening.
