Eugene Atkins a resident of Grand Rapids, MI was 19 years old when he was convicted of selling heroin to Matthew Mckinney who later overdosed in 2004. Matthew was given the heroin by a friend Chris Perrin who shot it up for Matthew who couldn't do it himself, rode around with Matthew as he overdosed in the passenger seat, left him im 19 degree weather overnight to find him dead the following morning. Chris never sought out medical attention for Matthew. We will never know if Matthew would of lived due to his friends actions. Chris later became the key witness in Eugene's trial and Eugene was given a natural life sentence in prison. Chris got a slap on the wrist and a few years later overdosed himself and died. Eugene was not responsible for Matthew's death and has served 16 years in the federal prison system. We are asking for support in helping to get Eugene a pardon. He was lied to by his lawyers to plead guilty for a crime he never believed he was guilty of. He was convicted by a jury not of his peers and the judge had ties to the community in which Matthew and Chris lived.
