

On line scamming of innocent customers
The Issue
Recently my family member was duped by a seller on online Platform Quikr. While I lodged a complaint with cyber cell yet I thought of deep diving into the platform. was shocked to see that this person had over 50 ads on the platform & one contact number. The scammer has been active on the platform for a very long time. This means the platform has no mechanism of background check of sellers to create a safe platform for their customers. I realised that having so many ads displayed on the platform & for a such a long duration, many innocent online customers would have fallen prey and would have been duped of millions of rupees. When I escalated this issue to Quikr through their social handles, it took them two days to remove his one ad. I had to again tell Quikr team that he has many more ads before they removed rest. So he would have continued with his unscrupulous activities if I had not highlighted it second time. I requested Quikr to initiate action against this unscrupulous seller as this will deter him & safeguard many innocent people. They simply washed off their hands . Now this person can be active again with another phone number or new identity and have a field day on the same platform. I also saw many similar negative reviews of Quikr on App Store.
I thought Ministry of IT & Consumer Affairs needs to identify such unsafe platforms & give some guidelines to them to ensure that online customers are not duped on daily basis.
