Bring Ice Hockey Back to Cenla

"What's your plan for the weekend?" This is a fairly common question asked by thousands in our city. Many times the answer is "staying home", or worse, "We're going out of town!" Our city is very nice, but people aren't interested in taking a weekend trip to Cenla because our entertainment offerings are lacking.

This petition is to ask the Rapides Parish Coliseum board of directors to hear a proposal to bring a minor league hockey team back to Alexandria. By doing this, our beautiful area will be more inviting to the growing number of hockey fans, and entertainment seekers, in our state.

Both Lafayette and Bossier City have benefited immensely from their respected hockey teams. Families from miles around travel to watch these games, eat at the surrounding restaurants, and spend money in the surrounding stores. Local businesses can use end boards and in game segments to get their names in the minds of local citizens for a great price. The benefits do not just come from the money spent in the area though.

Minor league hockey teams are great friends to charities and their community. Nothing is cooler than having a professional athlete come to your school and speak to students, annual teddy bear tosses from minor league hockey teams give thousands of teddy bears to children's hospitals in both Lafayette and Bossier City each Christmas, and the support nights for military, fire, and police can purchase life saving and life giving supplies for community and our state. There are opportunities for live music and food before games where families can come and enjoy time together, as well as enjoying the game itself. Local heroes can be honored at the ceremonial puck drop before each game. The benefits are almost innumerable for all parties involved.
