STOP WEAPONIZING CPS

STOP WEAPONIZING CPS
The Issue
Background:
My special needs child was abused at school. According to the police, because he is nonverbal; there is not much they can do for our cases. Rather than the school cooperate and help figure out who abused him, they choose to weaponize CPS. They believe if they point the finger back at us, law enforcement will forget he was abused at school. I am my child’s voice! Being his voice should not punish us!
Our Petition:
Advocacy should never result in a phone call to Child Protective Services (CPS). As a parent, advocacy is all we know when raising our children. Raising two children of color is a challenge in today's society. Words are our superpower. When we use our superpower, institutions become threatened. How do they choose to fight against our superpower? They call CPS.
It is any parent's nightmare. You advocate for your child, only to receive a knock at the door from CPS. Often schools and their districts will utilize CPS as intimidation and retaliatory tactics. They believe by inviting a system into your home, with the threat of taking your child; you will back down.
The state of WA has a big issue with this matter! It is time to raise awareness.
The purpose of this petition to encourage lawmakers to do the following:
- Create a retaliation law (Whistleblower Law), with guidelines, that protects parents utilizing their advocacy skills for their children, exposing corruption, misconduct, or physical abuse in a classroom, school, and school district.
- Create a call tracking system for repeated calls made from the same person, group, or organization to reduce the use of weaponizing CPS. For repeated callers linked to unfounded cases, pursue false reporting charges on the person, group, and organization.
- Tighten and expand the state's guidelines used by Mandatory Reporters in identifying the reasonable cause of concern for abuse.
- Provide Racial Bias training to all Mandatory Reporters.
- Increase Mandatory Reporting training to twice a year.
