Rancho Mirage City Council should meet after working hours

Rancho Mirage City Council should meet after working hours
The Issue
The Rancho Mirage City Council currently meets at 1pm every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. As noted in this Desert Sun article, it is one of only two cities in the entire Coachella Valley to meet in the middle of the work day - a time that is only convenient to those that are retired or have the luxury of not working for a couple of hours in the middle of the day. As a result, city council meetings often have just one or two participants making public comment, on a "busy" day.
Changing the city council meeting time to 5pm would:
- Be more inclusive - including of those that are younger and may have 9-5 jobs.
- Align Rancho Mirage with our neighboring cities.
- Improve participation for our democracy.
The city council's own data supports this argument - a majority of residents that have responded in various ways support this idea according to this video. Despite this, the city council refuses to actually change the time, and misleads people into thinking the idea isn't popular. It's time for the city council to listen to its residents and change its meeting time to 5pm.
NOTE: PLEASE ONLY SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU ARE A RANCHO MIRAGE RESIDENT!
