Dear all,

Gone are the days when marriage ceremonies were celebrated in a simple way. Now a days we see that even middle class and lower middle class families are spending too much on marriages and arrange grand multi cuisine buffet or offer food to the whole society (if the marriages are held in villages or in small town). The most depressing fact about such parties is wastage of food in large quantities, as most of the people take plate full of food but  leave it,half eaten.

Same is the scene in five star hotels or good restaurants where buffets are served or   packages like complimentary breakfast are offered. Even in small udupi hotels serving south Indian food, people leave the sambar uneaten. In addition to this,in places like canteens, hostel messes, hospitals,or at any public eateries, where people leave the food half eaten, food wastage is on massive scale. Our Indian culture consider food as Goddess Laxmi and wasting food on such a grand scale is a real insult to her. India is an agrarian country and we can not imagine our life without farmers. Wasting the food means making their efforts futile.and even of those who cook and serve.Wasting food means throwing money in the dustbin. With soaring food prices and prices of essential commodities reaching to sky, can we afford such a huge wastage of food ??????

While at one hand people in India  go on without food and remain undernourished,at another hand ,INDIA  REMAINS ONE OF THE COUNTRIES WITH A HIGH RATE OF FOOD WASTAGE.INDIAN WASTE AS MUCH FOOD AS THE WHOLE OF U.K.CONSUMES.

Our street and garbage bins, landfills have sufficient proof to prove it.
Weddings, canteens, hotels, social and family functions, households spew out so much food.THE AMOUNT OF FOOD THAT GOES WASTE IN THE COUNTRY EVERY YEAR IS MORE THAN 40% with VALUE at 58,000 CRORES.

My appeal to general public is that everyone should take an oath not to waste food at home and at any social function, restaurant or at the any public place where they eat..The food served at marriages should  be considered as God's Prashad and should not be left uneaten. Please serve yourself with a small portion at the buffets. It you are eating at the restaurant, please do not leave the food half eaten..BECAUSE अन्न हे पूर्णब्रम्ह!!(FOOD IS GOD)

Dear minister,

Food wastage should be considered a crime under law and fine or penalty should be levied on persons in whose parties food is wasted. All hotels / restaurants should be authorised to penalise people for wasting food. There should be a STRICT LAW, to prevent the massive food wastage.

In addition to this ,there is an another type of food wastage(wastage of food grains ) due to improper storage as well as lack of effective and  timely distribution system, for which our government policies should be blamed. News about spoiled food grains,on a huge scale,at the warehouses or at the go-down  are often seen in newspapers and on TV. According to the United Nations Development Program,up to 40% of the food produced in India is wasted. About 21 million tonnes of wheat are wasted in India and  never reaches the needy. In fact, according to the agriculture ministry, Rs.50,000 crore worth of food produced is wasted every year in the country. As the food grains are stored in the go downs of FOOD CORPORATION OF INDIA,they should also be covered under the law,for prevention of food wastage.

Considering the gravity of the problem,it is a high time for the  government to  alter its policies about storage and distribution of produced food items and come up with a STRICT LAW,at the earliest. to prevent food wastage..

Thank You !!!!
