Apply Prop 57 time-off credits as promised

The Issue

Proposition 57 was designed to provide sentence-shortening credits to incarcerated people who complete rehabilitative programs. The people of California have recognized that "War on Crime" era politics produced outrageous prison terms. Writing the rules for good-credit earning opportunities was up to the discretion of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The CDCR wrote the following rule for fire camp credits:

Offenders with violent offenses completed fire fighter training for assignment to Camp or a Firehouse and inmates assigned to Fire Camp in support positions... Prop. 57 GCC Credits -50%

However, the CDCR has decided to manipulate the way that they apply the 50% promised to incarcerated firefighters resulting in an actual reduction of only 30%. This means that those who risk their lives fighting California’s wildfires for $1 per hour are only given a 30% time credit when they were promised a much bigger reduction for their service. Every single day counts to an incarcerated person!

CDCR will continue with the showmanship and refrain from taking any real action so that they can exploit Americans for cheap labor unless we demand reform. Let's not neglect the mothers, fathers, sons and daughters who were condemned to suffer in cages for much too long. Please sign and urge Secretary Diaz of the CDCR to apply the Prop 57 fairly and as promised. Give those who have proven themselves to be rehabilitated another chance!
