I am a resident of Newark, NJ, a father to my son, and a tenant in one of the buildings managed by the city's housing authority. Despite my best efforts to maintain my home and provide for my child, the neglect from the housing authority has led to deteriorating living conditions that have negatively impacted both our lives. WE'VE BEEN WITHOUT HEAT for a YEAR! This has resulted in my inability to have visits with my son as a result of him constantly  getting sick as well damages on the premises where I reside because of The immense mental health toll this situation has taken on me causing me to black out at times when my belongings were stolen and my rights were violated.

The American Psychological Association states that poor housing conditions can lead to significant mental health issues including depression and anxiety (APA).

 This is not just about me; it's about all tenants who are suffering due to negligence from the housing authority.

I am asking you today not only as fellow residents but also as compassionate individuals who understand what it means to strive for better living conditions for oneself and loved ones. I need your support in testifying how good of a person, father, and tenant I am despite the challenges thrown at me as a result of these easily overlooked and at times misundertood circumstances.
