On March 3, 1989, the Rajasthan Judicial Officers Association sponsored by the Lions Club had installed a Manu idol in front of the lawn of the high court with the permission of the high court.

This is a matter of great shame for our country that our judiciary is implicitly endorsing the misogyny and casteism rampant in the Manusmriti by having an idol of Manu on the Rajasthan High court premises.

Though removing a statue will by no means end the massive levels of oppression by hindu brahminical society in India, symbols do matter. And when our judiciary stops implicity endorsing symbols of oppression and bigotry like Manu, it is a tiny but significant step towards addressing the poison that is brahminical oppression in India.
