Only 13 states in the US mandate the age of consent to be 18. Let's urge Congress to act in passing a federal law that sets the age of consent nationwide to 18.

Many Americans are under the wrongful assumption that the age of consent is already 18 nationwide, but that isn't the case.

If you are too young to purchase alcohol and cigarettes, you are absolutely too young to being a child into the world.

Below is a list of states and their age of consent, but keep in mind many states have additional exemptions (for example in Hawaii a 14 year old can consent to being with a 19 year old)

States where the age of consent is 16 (31): Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio,[b] Oklahoma, Pennsylvania,[c] Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.

 States where the age of consent is 17 (6): Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, and Wyoming.

 States where the age of consent is 18 (13): Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas,[d] Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
