Raise the Driving Age to 18 in California

Raise the Driving Age to 18 in California
The Issue
Every month in the news we hear about car accidents involving young drivers throughout California and other states in the US. For example, back in the beginning of January, it was reported that a 17-year-old caused a high-way collision while participating in the "Bird-Box challenge" by purposely driving blindfold. Why do teens think this safe to do?
According to the CDC website, "Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations." We see young teens getting distracted in their car whether it be from texting, changing the music, sending a Snapchat, or from not concentrating. This is a hazard to themselves, the passengers, and other drivers around them. Crashes can happen and people can die from this.
Becoming an adult in the US comes with a lot of responsibilities and privileges. With the number being 18 years of age to be one, shouldn't it make sense for the driving age to be 18 as well?
The majority of California is a liberal state and as of 2018, the population of CA is about 40 million, so that's a lot of people that can be influenced by this new proposal. By beginning small with using CA as the starting point, CA senators should be able to influence, persuade, and prove to other state senators that this decision to raise the driving age to 18 can positively impact teens, parents, and all communities.
By keeping young teens off the road, raising the age to obtain a driving license in California to 18 will be more effective, as it should lower the number of car collisions.
I am asking CA senators, Dianne Feinstein, and Kamala D. Harris to consider this proposal as it one that can save many teenage lives and the citizens around them. If you agree with my statement then please sign!
