The Issue

For many years, I've been living with a disability that makes it impossible for me to afford the essentials of daily life. Each month, I receive a mere $967 from SSI—an amount that barely allows me to exist, let alone live.

Five years ago, during the pandemic, the government acknowledged the financial struggles of its citizens with a $2,500 monthly relief payment, illustrating a more realistic cost of living. Yet, here we are, expecting Americans with disabilities to survive on a fraction of that amount. It's unjust and unlivable.

The current SSI benefits of $967 per month fall far below the threshold needed to cover basic expenses such as housing, healthcare, and food. Many individuals are left choosing between essentials, a decision no one should have to make. It’s time for our government to take meaningful action.

We are calling on Congress to raise SSI benefits for Americans with disabilities to $2,500 per month. This amount should reflect the true costs of living with a disability, including healthcare and daily living expenses, ensuring that people with disabilities can live with dignity and not merely exist. Additionally, we urge Congress to revise the stringent asset limits that trap people in poverty and prevent them from saving any amount for emergencies or future needs.

Addressing these issues is not just an act of goodwill but a moral imperative that supports the well-being and dignity of millions of Americans. Let us stand together as a community to push for this crucial change.

Sign this petition to urge Congress to increase SSI benefits and fix asset limitations for Americans with disabilities, so that every individual has the right to live, not just exist. Together, we can make a difference. #RaiseSSI
