Growing up in Nebraska, I've seen firsthand the challenges young people face. By raising the age of consent, we would provide a protective barrier, ensuring that our children are legally safeguarded as they continue to grow and mature.

In addition, aligning Nebraska's age of consent with the national standard of 18 promotes uniformity and consistency in legal proceedings and victim protection across states. States like California and Florida have already adopted this standard, recognizing the necessity for a higher age of protection to shield their young from premature and potentially harmful relationships. Our state should follow suit by implementing this change to send a clear message that we value the well-being and safety of our minors above all else.
