Great news — and an important moment for our campaign.
Kraków Airport has officially announced that it will install a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) to replace the outdated 23‑year‑old equipment currently in use. Even more importantly, the airport has stated that it intends to pursue CAT II certification, which would finally allow safer landings in lower‑visibility conditions than today’s CAT I system.
What this means
The new ILS will be installed and activated in autumn 2026.
The airport plans to begin the process of CAT II certification, with the earliest possible approval expected in 2027.
This is the first public confirmation that KRK is preparing to move beyond CAT I.
What this doesn’t solve yet:
The new system will initially operate only as CAT I, meaning diversions will continue until CAT II certification is complete.
There is still no plan or timeline for CAT III, the standard that would eliminate most weather‑related diversions entirely.
Passengers will continue to face disruptions during fog and poor visibility until the airport fully upgrades.
Why our petition still matters:
This announcement shows that public pressure works — but we are not done.
CAT II is a step in the right direction, yet CAT III remains essential for a modern international airport serving millions of passengers each year.
We will continue pushing for:
A clear, funded roadmap to CAT II implementation
A long‑term commitment to CAT III capability
Transparency from airport authorities about timelines and progress
Thank you to everyone who has supported this petition so far. Your voice is making a difference. Let’s keep going until Kraków Airport delivers the reliability and safety passengers deserve.
