Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet recently everyone – been very busy with my nursing degree– but I’m back with some good news! The new Minister for children with medical conditions, Nadhim Zahawi, has agreed to meet with us on Wednesday 2 May! And he’s said he’s “open-minded” about making changes that’ll keep more children with medical conditions safe. This is great news after our last meeting was cancelled when the old Minister was sacked. I won’t be able to make the meeting, as I’ve got nursing exams I can’t miss, but I know the other parents going and the charities from the Health Conditions in School Alliance will do us all proud! At the meeting they’ll be asking for the same things we’ve been calling for over the past two years. For Ofsted to regularly check schools have good, effective medical conditions policies that keep kids safe. And for the Department for Education do more to make sure all schools have these policies (like getting schools to publish them on their website). And they’ll be mentioning that almost 50,000 people agree with us. After the meeting I’ll be back in touch to let you know how it went. Til then fingers crossed.
