So after two years of campaigning, I was delighted when just before Christmas, the Minister Robert Goodwill finally agreed to meet with us and talk properly about care in school. And then this week I heard he’d been sacked in the government reshuffle. Typical! As well as parents, the meeting was going to involve five charities representing children with all sorts of medical conditions. It would have been a great chance for him to hear about what his department needs to do to make things better for all children. We’re asking his officials to make sure whoever his successor is sticks to the plan of meeting with us, and gets this sorted as quickly as possible. But I’ll let you know once we have more news. When we have that meeting, I want to tell the Minister (whoever it is) all about why we need change now. So if you’ve had a bad experience you’d like to share that you haven’t already, you can enter it in to this Diabetes UK form (you can share details about any condition though) and we’ll share a few on the day. I hope whoever has responsibility for children with medical conditions now will realise how important this responsibility is, and that they’ve a real chance to help hundreds of thousands of children stay safe in school.
