Big news everyone: I’ve just heard that Robert Goodwill is the new Minister responsible for making sure children with long-term medical conditions are Safe in School. So that’s why you’ll see a different name at the top of this petition from now on. For anyone who missed my last update, the previous Minister Edward Timpson lost his seat at the election. This was a bit of a shame, as he’d previously agreed to meet with us. But it just means we need to convince his replacement to get behind the campaign too. That’s why I want to hand this petition in later this year if we don’t see any progress. If my daughter Jenny goes back to school in September and still nothing has changed, we really need to step things up. Before then though I’d love to get our petition above that magic 50,000 number, so please keep sharing with friends and family. P.S. Robert Goodwill’s constituency is Scarborough and Whitby – if you live there it couldn’t hurt to ask for a meeting to tell him about the changes we want to see (Ofsted inspecting schools to see if they have the right policies, and action from the Department of Education to help schools put together the right polices). If you do get a meeting email diabetesvoices@diabetes.org.uk and the Health Conditions in School Alliance will be able to send you through some stats and documents. Thanks!
