Hi everyone,
In my last update I mentioned we now have a new Minister responsible for kids with medical conditions in school, Robert Goodwill MP. Now I’ve just heard that the Health Conditions in School Alliance have had a letter from him.
The good news is that he’s agreed to meet. But he’s not (yet) agreed to any of the changes we’re asking for. So before that meeting we’ll need to let him know how important this is for all of us.
The Health Conditions in School Alliance, who are backing our petition, are looking for parents to make short videos, saying why we’re backing the campaign in one sentence.
Something like, ‘I’m backing the Safe in School campaign because….’
I think this’ll be a great way to show that this affects children with all sorts of medical conditions in all sorts of different ways. I’ll be giving it a go and hope you can too.
It’s easier than it looks by the way! I made the film at the top of this petition in a couple of minutes: all you need is a camera phone or computer and a quietish room.
There’s a couple of ways you can share the video once it’s ready (remember to add a link to the petition too – it’s https://goo.gl/zcTj8m:
Instagram: Put it on Instagram with the hashtag #SafeInSchool
Twitter: Put it on Twitter with the hashtag #SafeInSchool
Facebook: Put it on Facebook with hashtag #SafeInSchool (and add in @DiabetesUK so someone from the Alliance will see it!)
Send it by email to diabetesvoices@diabetes.org.uk. If the file is too big you can use a website like Wetransfer.
After you put the video online, someone from the Health Conditions In School Alliance might be in touch to talk about how they can use the video in the campaign. But that’ll be entirely up to you.
You can email diabetesvoices@diabetes.org.uk if you’re having any trouble sharing the video and one of the team there will be happy to help you out.
I think hearing straight from parents why care in schools needs to get better will definitely get more people backing our campaign. And the more people sign up, the sooner we’ll get the changes we all need, so please get involved if you have a minute.
