I’ve got one big half-term day out planned already. I’ll be handing in this petition on Monday 23 October at the Houses of Parliament! And I’d love it if some of you could join me and talk to your MP about why you signed. The Health Conditions in School Alliance, who have done loads to promote our petition, are organising a big event to go along with the petition hand-in. They’ll be arranging for children and parents to meet with their MPs, to tell them what it’s really like managing a medical condition at school. There’s around 80 places, but I know there’s about 45,000 of you! So please apply as soon as you can if you’re interested. All the details are on the Diabetes UK website, and parents or carers of children with any medical condition in England can apply for a place: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Get_involved/Campaigning/Type-1-diabetes-Make-the-grade/Support-our-work-with-the-Health-Conditions-in-school-Alliance/Safe-in-School-in-Parliament-2017/ By the way, if you do get a place, the Health Conditions in School Alliance are offering to pay back travel costs, so it shouldn’t cost you to come. I met with my MP last year, and hearing Jenny’s story really affected him. And he then got behind our campaign straightaway. So the more MPs hearing directly just how hard life can be at school for kids with medical conditions, the better. And if you aren’t able to make it on the 23rd, you can ask to meet your MP locally instead. Getting a few more signatures to get us over 50,000 mark would be great too. To help us get there, there’s a new campaign video coming out soon. I’ll send that round once it’s ready next week, and it would be brilliant if you could give it a share. All the best till then! Louise
