Petition to save our schools in Valley North and Sudbury West
The Issue
Whereas the Chelmsford Valley District Composite School, Lively District Secondary School, Chelmsford Public School, Larchwood Public School and Levack Public School are a vital part of the communities which include Azilda, Chelmsford, Dowling, Levack, Lively, Onaping and Cartier;
Whereas the Rainbow District School Board is considering closing Chelmsford Valley District Composite School and absorbing high school students into Confederation Secondary School and Sudbury Secondary School in September 2017;
Whereas the Rainbow District School Board is considering closing Lively District Secondary School and absorbing those students into Lockerby Composite School and Sudbury Secondary School;
Whereas the Rainbow District School Board is considering consolidating Chelmsford Public School and Larchwood Public School;
Whereas the Rainbow District School Board is considering removing the French Immersion Program from Levack Public School;
Whereas closing Chelmsford Valley District Composite School, Lively District Secondary School, Chelmsford Public School and Larchwood Public School will have a devastating effect on our children and our communities;
Whereas as many as 11 more schools in our communities face uncertainty and are under accommodation review;
Therefore, we, the undersigned, petition the Rainbow District School Board to halt any discussion to close any school in the Valley North and Sudbury West planning area and demand the school board engage in immediate consultations with the public.
