Community Announcement by Northern Regional Railway Company about its Plans to operate Trains to Llangothlin. You can provide a Letter of Support.
We are currently seeking community feedback in relation to the planned reopening of the Railway between Armidale and Llangothlin.
Business planning is well advanced with community consultation now forming part of one of the final stages.
The business planning and reopening of the line is a joint initiative between Northern Regional Railway Company Pty Ltd and New England Railway Incorporated and supported by Trains North. Funding will largely come from private equity and applications for competitive grants, with a number of local businesses interested in contributing. Negotiations with an equity company are also well advanced.
The line will initially be restored to a standard allowing trains to run at up to 50km/h at a cost of $32 million. The restoration will be designed for future upgrades to allow heavier trains, and increased speed at a current cost of around $20 million.
We encourage as many people as possible to complete the attached feedback form.
