Dear rail supporter,

From time to time I have seen in the social media some people tend to cast doubt about the future of train service from Tamworth to Armidale and vice versa. Some claim there is not enough passengers to suport the service. it is not true.  Others claim that the repairing of old bridges can cost millions.  Some say that the train service will be replaced with coaches. These are not facts.They are just wishful thinking on the part of those who dislike trains or ideologically driven comments by those who carry hatred of some sort about train services in regional areas like ours.

In a recent letter that I received from Hon.Janny Aitchison, State minister for regional transport, she categorically denies that the service will be terminated in Tamwoth or the service to Armidale will be replaced with coaches.

We can now move forward without casting any doubt about the future sustainability of train service to Armidale.  However, the question remains what the NSw government is going to do about extending the train service to Glen Innes and beyond?

Transport NSW will introduce a new bus service between Armidale and Port Macuarie from the middle of 2026.  It is a welcome development.
