Dear  Sir: Every day, tonnes of food is wasted in trains specially Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains because people may not eat the food. This leads to food wastage, increase in pollution due to wasted packing material like silver foil, cutlery etc.

I suggest that you make food optional in these trains and the food can either be booked at the time of train ticket booking or it can be ordered in the train just like it happens in low cost airlines. There are many a benefits for the same

• Railways will  be able to plan better inventory of foods
• Railway food contractors will provide better food quality automatically as they know people have choice
• Major reduction in wastage of food. As rails consume a lot of resources this should help in reduction in price of food grains specially lentils.
