Raphael RICARDO started this petition to US Police Racists

I can't breathe.

As citizens of the world, we mourn the senseless loss of a new life at the hands of the American police.

We stand in solidarity with all those who are suffering at this time.

These killings must stop. Each one of them is a wound in the heart of our humanity and an indelible and shameful stain on the flag of the United States of America.

Racism thrives in silence -- so let us give voice. Racism is a problem that belongs to all of us. It is our struggle.

But we will not let that struggle turn into hatred, for then we would be no wiser than those whose conduct we are trying to influence. To quote Dr. Martin Luther King: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can."

It is with this in mind that we call on all leaders to act NOW and hold President Donald Trump, state and local governments accountable so that:
All police officers involved in the murder of George Floyd be brought to justice,
Police officers who are guilty of excessive use of force or fail to prevent it (even once) should be prosecuted,
Every murder by police officers is independently and transparently investigated.
We pledge to do our part, confronting the fear, anger and ignorance of racism with the hope, love and strength of our humanity.

Rest in peace, George Floyd. It will not have been in vain.

WHO IS GEORGE FLOYD

George Floyd was a 46-year-old man. He died when an American police officer nailed him to the ground with one knee on his neck for 7 minutes until he suffocated. These were his last words:

"This is my face
I didn't do anything serious.
Please... Please...
Please... Please...
Please, I can't breathe.
Please... Please...
Please, somebody.
Please... Please...
I can't breathe.
I can't breathe.
Please... Please...
(inaudible)
Can't breathe, my face
Get up
I can't breathe.
Please (inaudible)
Damn it, I can't breathe.
I, uh...
I can't move.
Mom
Mom
I can't.
My knees
My neck
This is it.
This is it.
I'm claustrophobic.
My stomach hurts.
My neck hurts.
It hurts all over.
Water, something
Please... Please...
Please... Please...
Officer, I can't breathe.
Don't kill me.
You're going to kill me.
Go to
I can't breathe.
I can't breathe.
They're going to kill me.
They're going to kill me.
I can't breathe.
I can't breathe.
Please, sir.
Please... Please...
Please... Please...
Please, I can't breathe."

Then his eyes closed. His pleas ceased. Moments later, George Floyd was pronounced dead.

Today we have a choice. Let this become just another tragic death at the hands of the American police -- or change things.

We are a movement of over 60 million citizens -- when we speak out, we are deafening. So let's give a voice for everyone to come together and stop these racist murders, and let's push our leaders to do the same.

Sign this open letter! When our appeal is huge, Avaaz will publish it in major U.S. newspapers and on websites around the world. Let's make it a banner to stop the killings and honor the memory of those we have already lost.
