We want a school named after Manmeet Singh Bhullar
The Issue
Manmeet Singh Bhullar, MLA of Calgary Greenway was more than just a politician. He was a true public servant, community leader, and friend to many Albertans. As our Mayor Nenshi says, “Manmeet’s accomplishments are well-known. He was a powerful community advocate from a young age and first elected to the Alberta legislature at 28. He was brave and unrelenting in his role, particularly when it came to forcefully advocating for children in care – the least powerful people in our society. And this was his true calling – a man who defined integrity, who was genuine in everything he did, who never stopped fighting so that everyone could live a life of dignity.”
He is the reason why midwifery got funded in Alberta. He spoke up against domestic and sexual violence, racism and discrimination. He advocated for refugees. He was strong, principled, and courageous man of action. On Nov 23, 2015, he died while helping a fellow Albertan in need of assistance on the QE II highway on his drive from Calgary to Edmonton on legislature duties.
We Albertans, are signing this petition to request our Premier Rachel Notley to have a school in Calgary named after Manmeet Singh Bhullar. He is most deserving of this tribute.
