Preserve Green Space in York - Stop plans to build road through it.

York council plans to build an access road diagonally through the Green space on the Old Manor School site on Boroughbridge Road. (above) It is in use regularly by dog walkers like myself. It contains mature trees and is a habitat to many species of animals and birds. It has had previously been used for football and walkers, until the council welded the gates shut. This is being planned when there is an existing road right beside it, namely Lower Poppleton Lane, which they intend to all but close and two other roads. It makes no sense. Retaining this green space is needed more than ever due to the development of adjacent disused land for homes. This space could be developed to support kick-about area for kids, play park and wildlife habitat could be enhanced. York Council is not considering the environment or its local residents. We have not enough Public Green spaces in our neighbourhood. If we get enough signatures, we can ask our MP Rachael Maskell to put pressure on York Council to reconsider their plans and do the right thing and scrap plans to build this road. Reuse existing roads, don't bulldoze green space and chop down trees.
