The Issue
In Michigan, our natural world is not just a backdrop; it's a vital component of our day-to-day lives and the essence of our heritage. We  Michiganians take immense pride in our Great Lakes, forests, valleys, rivers, and streams. These natural resources are more than mere scenic wonders but are integral to our history, our communities, and our way of living. Preserving this rich and diverse environment for the benefit of future generations is not just a choice—it's our moral duty.

Our constitutional rights to clean air, pure water, and the preservation of the natural environment are enshrined in our Michigan State Constitution. Yet, increasing development and the proliferation of data centers pose significant threats to these rights. These large, power-hungry facilities can strain local resources, leading to increased air and water pollution, and they consume vast amounts of energy. Scientifically, we know that unchecked construction of data centers is not just an environmental concern but a societal one that affects public health, property values, and our quality of life. These Data center projects have continuously shown that they will deceive and distort actual figures and statistics to get them in at whatever cost to the local environment and people. The information is not to be trusted and needs extensive study and research and proven safe. The proof is extensively been shown in data center after data center after data center throughout our country. We must act now!

We are calling for an immediate statewide moratorium on the construction and operation of data centers until there is clear, evidence-based proof that our environmental rights and resources are safeguarded. By halting current and future projects, we can take the necessary time to conduct thorough environmental assessments and ensure adequate regulations are in place. Communities should first be informed and given the opportunity to voice their concerns and preferences regarding the placement and management of these centers.

A moratorium will allow us to work towards smarter, more sustainable solutions that balance technological advancement with environmental stewardship. Michigan has always been a leader in setting high standards for natural preservation and public welfare. By acting decisively now, we can maintain that legacy and safeguard our shared natural resources for generations to come.
